1 апреля, в понедельник в 13:00 Центр независимых социологических исследований в рамках направления «Миграции, этничность, национализм» проводит семинар, на котором выступит д-р Пит Сандерсон (Dr Pete Sanderson), заведующий кафедры изучения вопросов образования и сообществ в Университете Хаддерсфилда (Великобритания), с презентацией «Struggling at the margins – youth, racial tension and informal educational responses», которая подготовлена совместно с д-ром Полом Томасом (Dr Paul Thomas).

Ethnic diversity and its effects on social (community) cohesion increasingly salient in pan-European public policy since 2001, and subsequent terrorist events  and domestic disorder in a range of countries, including the United Kingdom. A common theme in political discourse has been the ‘failure of muilti-culturalism’, and the need for a new direction based on integration and citizenship. This paper explores some of the theoretical stances taken in relation to the concept of ‘cohesion’  and explores the changing role of informal (marginal) educational professionals in fostering cohesion in their work with marginalised young people in highly racialised environments in the North of England.  The paper is based on research conducted with young people and the professional youth workers based in their communities.
